The Role
BGC Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer or Geoscientist to be part of our growing team in Nashville, TN. BGC opened our Nashville office in 2023 to support clients in the pipeline, transportation, mining and energy sectors. In addition to strengthening our support for clients in the eastern US, the Nashville office location provides candidates an opportunity to work on some of the most complex applied earth sciences challenges worldwide. The ideal candidate will be an expert in one of more of the disciplines in which BGC provides consulting services: engineering geology, geohazards, geophysics, groundwater, rock mechanics, soil mechanics, or surface water. In addition to Eastern US projects, the successful candidate will work with our global team to help develop our client-base in line with BGC’s strategic direction.
This position is located in Nashville, TN. Regular travel to other BGC offices and project locations will be required.
Responsibilities
- Act as a project engineer or geoscientist and technical lead for specific aspects of pipeline, transportation, mining or energy projects
- Manage projects, including proposals, budgets, schedules, staffing, and scope
- Manage multi-disciplinary project teams, potentially working in remote and challenging environments
- Travel as required, which could occasionally include extended shifts at remote sites
- Organize and supervise field programs, including: geohazard site investigation, geohazard mitigation design and construction monitoring
- Author or co-author reports
- Train, mentor, and supervise technical work of junior staff
- Work with client and partner representatives
- Contribute to recruiting efforts for junior and intermediate staff
- Travel to other BGC offices on occasion to foster team connectivity and participate in business development and planning initiatives
- Participate in business development, including identifying new opportunities, promoting BGC’s capacity for undertaking innovative and advanced projects, and writing proposals
- Help promote BGC vision, values and culture amongst BGC staff
Required Education, Experience & Competencies
- 10 to 20 years of relevant professional engineering or geoscience experience, including in engineering consulting. Applicants with fewer or more years of experience than this may also be considered at a seniority level commensurate with their experience.
- Post-graduate degree in the candidate’s relevant field (e.g., Geology or Geological / Geotechnical / Civil Engineering)
- Registered as a professional engineer (PE) or professional geologist (PG)
- Technical expertise and project management experience in one or more of the primary sectors in which BGC works, including the pipeline, transportation, mining and energy sectors.
- Exceptional communication skills in English, both written and oral, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
